Overview of the INTO centre

An exceptional student experience

  • 2,300+ students have enrolled in INTO GCU programmes and 1,400+ students have progressed to Glasgow Caledonian University from INTO GCU since the INTO partnership began in 2008.
  • Accredited by the British Council and the British Accreditation Council (BAC) for academic and general English tuition.
  • There are 22 members of staff in the Centre.
  • There are 105 students of 28 different nationalities learning at the INTO Centre in the 2018–19 academic year.
  • In the 2016–17 academic year, 90% of INTO GCU students passed their pathway programme and 99% of which were eligible to progress to GCU.
  • In the 2017–18 academic year, 8% of INTO GCU students who successfully completed their academic pathway programme achieved a distinction (70% or higher), 15% received a merit (60%–69%) and 77% received a pass (40%–59%).
  • INTO GCU is a certified examination centre for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
  • The INTO Centre has received 100% student satisfaction for support and 95% student satisfaction with learning and teaching resources (INTO Annual Student Experience Survey 2018).

  • Shared building space with other University facilities to integrate international students into the GCU community as much as possible
  • Suite of teaching rooms with the latest learning technology
  • Wi-Fi access throughout the building
  • Social areas for students to relax and unwind, including table tennis and a pool table
  • Welfare, guidance, academic and accommodation services are located in centre
  • Ground floor of the building has a café with computer facilities

Students studying on the Centre's university preparation courses have a choice of accommodation options. Most INTO GCU students choose to stay at Liberty Park, which is owned by the University and made up of modern flats in the heart of the city centre, just a five minute walk from the INTO Centre. Students have a private en suite bedroom and share kitchen facilities with other students. If students want to consider an alternative to Liberty Park, there are other accommodation options available that are provided by a third party.

5 Programs

The programmes at INTO Glasgow Caledonian University have been developed to meet Glasgow Caledonian University's strategic objectives. The programmes are developed with, and validated by, the University. As well as the academic programmes listed below, INTO GCU also offers Academic English, Study Abroad with English and Pre-sessional English courses to improve students’ language skills.

International Foundation

  • Pathways available in: Built Environment; Business and Management; Computing; Engineering; Science.
  • Programmes typically last for 3–5 terms.
  • On successful completion, students can progress to the second year of a four year undergraduate degree at GCU.

Undergraduate Degree with International Year One

  • Combines English language and academic preparation with an undergraduate degree in a single study plan. Students can choose from 25 undergraduate degrees at GCU.
  • Subject areas include: Built Environment; Business and Management; Computing; Engineering; Science.
  • Students develop an understanding of academic subjects related to their degree as they improve their English language skills.
  • On successful completion of the preparation year, students will progress to the second year of their four year undergraduate degree at GCU.

International Diploma

  • Pathways available in: Built Environment; Business and Management, Computing; Engineering.
  • Programmes typically last for 3–5 terms.
  • On successful completion, students can progress to the third year of a four year undergraduate degree at GCU.

Undergraduate Degree with International Year Two

  • Combines English language and academic preparation with an undergraduate degree in a single study plan. Students can choose from 23 undergraduate degrees at GCU.
  • Subject areas include: Built Environment; Business and Management; Computing; Engineering.
  • Students develop an understanding of academic subjects related to their degree as they improve their English language skills.
  • On successful completion of the preparation year, students will progress to the third year of their four year undergraduate degree at GCU.

International Graduate Diploma

  • Pathways available in: Built Environment; Business and Management, Computing; Engineering.
  • Programmes typically last for 2–4 terms.
  • On successful completion, students can progress to a postgraduate degree at GCU.

Postgraduate Degree with Graduate Diploma

  • Combines English language and academic preparation with a postgraduate degree in a single study plan. Students can choose from 9 postgraduate degrees at GCU relating to the broad subject areas of Business and Management.
  • Students develop an understanding of academic subjects related to their degree as they improve their English language skills.
  • On successful completion of the preparation year, students will progress to their postgraduate degree at GCU.

Pre-sessional Pre-Master’s

  • One term (3 months) of intensive preparation for postgraduate study with direct entry to a specialist postgraduate degree. Students can choose from 24 postgraduate degrees at GCU.

• Subject areas include: Built Environment; Business and Management; Computing; Engineering.
• Students develop their English language skills and settle into student life in the UK before beginning their postgraduate degree.
