At this crucial time of social change, we at INTO extend our compassion and solidarity to all those affected by and those who care deeply about the events over the past several weeks. Diversity, inclusivity and respect for civil rights are important to INTO and a key focus of INTO Giving, the philanthropic arm of INTO.
INTO Giving is a registered charity that supports human rights across the globe. Since 2008, INTO Giving has raised funds to help underprivileged schoolchildren across Asia, Africa and the Americas. In 2016, they established a special focus on supporting refugee schoolchildren and girls’ education, and, in 2017, they expanded the charity’s objectives further to include support for organisations promoting human rights, social diversity and harmony, the relief of social disadvantage and the advancement of community development.
Aligning with these key objectives, INTO Giving has pledged $25,000 to be distributed equally to three anti-racism and civil rights organizations:
- Color of Change – formed in 2005, Color of Change is a US-wide digital racial justice organization whose work focuses on economic justice, criminal justice, media justice and voting freedom. Its executive director, Rashad Robinson, is a well-respected civil rights leader; on 3 June 2020, he was part of the online town hall meeting, whose other panellists included President Obama, Campaign Zero Co-founder Brittany Packnett Cunningham and former US Attorney General Eric Holder.
- NAACP – a 110-year-old civil rights organization whose mission is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination. The organisation has a long history, including an anti-lynching campaign, pushing for the desegregation of US schools, championing the Voting Rights Act, standing up for LGBTQ rights and standing up against racial inequality in education, employment and health care. Its members and leaders have included Rosa Parks, former Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and Martin Luther King Jr.
- Stop Hate UK – formed in response to the murder of Stephen Lawrence, Stop Hate UK provides anti-hate crime training, online resources for young people, and works together with London, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, East Midlands, West Midlands, Oldham, Wigan and Merseyside City Councils and Police Commissioners.
All donations will be made in June 2020. In accordance with INTO Giving’s funding guidelines, all three organizations are registered non-profits in either in the US or the UK.
INTO and INTO Giving’s work together, wherever it is in the world, supports diversity and inclusivity. This is made possible by a united effort from INTO faculty, staff, students and our family of agents alike.
