Fifteen educational agents and INTO employees from Latin America, Europe and Central Asia recently visited SLU-Madrid to explore INTO partner Saint Louis University’s European campus and learn more about the study options available, and what makes Madrid an excellent study destination.
During a two-day familiarization trip, attendees toured SLU-Madrid’s campus in the heart of the vibrant and historic Spanish capital city. SLU-Madrid is the first US university to have set up a campus in Europe and, during their stay, the visitors learned about the academic offerings, all of which are taught in English, including the 12 undergraduate degrees and two graduate degrees that can be completed entirely in Madrid. In addition, they found out how undergraduate students have the option of starting their studies in Madrid and finishing them at the SLU campus in the US.
As part of their full university experience, the participants found out about every facet of SLU-Madrid – students spoke about their living and learning experiences; academic aspects were highlighted through presentations from the Science & Engineering, Business, Arts & Sciences departments; and career services and internship opportunities were also covered.
Ana Cecilia García Ramentol, Educational Consultant from GR Academic in Venezuela, was impressed by what she saw during the FAM trip: “At SLU Madrid students enjoy the amazing experience of earning an American degree at an International environment in a small community while enriching from the culture that Madrid has to offer. This will open a world of opportunities to the International students,” she said.
“We were thrilled to have the group of education professionals visit our campus. On the campus tour everyone was busy posting to Instagram, doing Facebook live videos and also recording videos for their web pages so their students could see our campus, too,” said Heidi Buffington, Director of Admissions, SLU-Madrid.
“Visiting is the best way to get the feel for the atmosphere - as you walk by groups of students speaking English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, etc. you really hear how international we are, which is a powerful learning tool. If anyone finds themselves passing through Madrid, please consider a campus visit,” added Heidi.
On the last night, SLU-Madrid’s academic excellence and deep local connections were highlighted during an evening in the company of SLU-Madrid Art History Professor, Fabiola Martinez, who led the group through a tour of the world-famous Reina Sofia Art Museum. The visit concluded with Spanish tapas and entertainment at a local restaurant.
