Students at the University of Stirling and INTO City, University of London have been given a head-start and a heads-up on what is available to them thanks to two apps developed by those who will be teaching and supporting them throughout their studies.
Stirling Essentials
Stirling Essentials - an online module to assist new students to transition into study at Stirling is now live. It is available to all new students before they arrive at Stirling, and to existing students via a link on the virtual learning platform Canvas, which can be accessed as required.
The module offers a quick guide to approaches to learning; academic skills; information on how things work at Stirling and where to find support. In addition, it is a single gateway to in-depth existing resources and support from services which can be difficult to find.
Professor Alison Green, Dean for Teaching Quality Enhancement, said: “I would encourage all academics to review this module and then encourage students to engage with its content. This will help students become more confident and resilient independent learners as they transition to study and throughout their degree.”
This project has been delivered as part of the current Enhancement Theme: Evidence for Enhancement. The content has been produced in a collaboration between colleagues in Student Learning Services; Student Support Services; International Office; Admissions; Information Services; librarians; INTO University of Stirling; Careers & Employability Services and has been brought to life by our e-learning technologists.
It is based on extensive research of best practice in the sector. Alison Green added: “It has been a pleasure to be involved in this module with such a wide range of colleagues who have brought their expertise, energy and student focus to the project.”
The resource will continue to evolve through student and staff feedback and further development.
