Amy McGowan

Senior Vice President, New Partnerships North America
Amy was instrumental in the development of INTO’s first US partnership, INTO Oregon State University, serving as its first employee and later its center director.

Her career in international education began with teaching English as a Second Language in the US and Japan. Previously, she worked 10 years with Embassy CES, part of Study Group, serving as academic director, center director and west coast manager.

Bruce Magid

Executive Vice President Partner Development, Pathway North America
Bruce joins INTO from Brandeis University, near Boston, where he has been Dean of the International Business School and Martin and Ahuva Gross Chair in Financial Markets and Institutions, as well as Founding Director, Perlmutter Institute for Global Business Leadership, since 2007.

Prior to this, Bruce held roles as Dean, College of Business and Founding Dean, Lucas Graduate School of Business at San José State University and as Founding Executive Director of MSU Global, Adjunct Faculty, Department of Finance, and Chair, Study Abroad Risk Assessment Committee, at Michigan State University.

Before entering higher education management, Bruce was a senior executive at Bank of America for 21 years, holding roles in Venezuela, Brazil, Miami and San Francisco.

Bruce holds a PhD in Economics, Business Law and Comparative Politics from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Harvard University/Tufts University; an MA in Law and Diplomacy, Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and a BS in Foreign Service from the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University.

Dr JoAnn McCarthy PhD

Director of Academic Affairs – North America
JoAnn has spent thirty years in tertiary education, most recently as Assistant Provost for International Affairs at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

She is a past president of the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA); served as chair of the International Education Leadership Section of NAFSA (the world’s largest professional organization of nearly 10,000 international educators); and served on ACE’s International Commission (1999-2002).

Dr. McCarthy earned a PhD in Foreign Language Education from the Florida State University and is a former French professor. She has served on many national and international advisory boards and is a frequent consultant, author, and speaker on the internationalization of higher education, the changing dynamics of student/faculty mobility, and the emerging role of the research university in global civil society. In 2009, she was honored by AIEA with the Charles Klasek Award for Outstanding Contributions to International Education.

Tim O'Brien

Senior Vice President New Partner Development

With a career in international education spanning almost 30 years, Tim's work has encompassed most aspects of international education. Based in Washington DC for the past three years, he is currently responsible for helping to shape and expand INTO’s partner university network across North America.

Prior to his current assignment, Tim spent eight years with INTO supporting the expansion of INTO's UK network. His work has included responsibility for INTO's market insight, external relations, and working as managing director for UK operations.

Before joining INTO, Tim worked in a variety of senior international roles in UK universities with responsibility for recruitment, alumni, student exchange, internationalization and establishing presence across many of the key markets in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa. Tim and his teams collected three HEIST (the UK's leading marketing awards for higher education) Gold awards for excellence in international marketing during his tenure in the UK university sector. 

Tim represented the university sector as a member of the international board of the UCAS, the UK's national university admissions service.  He also served as a board member of the Northern Consortium of Universities in the United Kingdom. He has consulted for the British Council, DAAD – the German international education organization and continues to speak regularly at external fora and conferences.

Leanna Tillman

Regional Director North America
Leanna Tillman is Regional Director of North America for INTO University Partnerships. In her role, Leanna leads strategic marketing and recruitment through agency partnerships, institutional links and government sponsorships in the US and Canada.

With over ten years of experience in the international arena, Leanna's experience spans across ESL instruction, J-1 cultural exchange programs, business development, and higher education. Leanna has been with INTO for almost four years and is currently based in Tampa at INTO University of South Florida.

James Wei

Director of Recruitment, INTO North America
James Wei supports INTO North America’s strategic marketing and recruitment activities by traveling the globe as a US higher education specialist and communicating the virtues of INTO’s university partners.

With two decades of international student recruitment experience, James has held key positions with Kaplan’s Global Pathways program, Aspect International’s J-1 programs, EF Language School’s Alliant University, and San Diego State University’s ALI program.

James has been a member of the INTO family for over 2 years now and is based out of the INTO US headquarters in San Diego.

Yasmin Sefer

Senior Director, Recruitment, INTO North America
Yasmin Sefer, Sr. Director of Recruitment for INTO North America is responsible for working with INTO’s Global Recruitment Unit to drive global students recruitment to INTO partnerships in North America.

Yasmin has been involved in international education for more than 15 years; originally from Turkey and Germany she completed her undergraduate studies at NYU.  She started her career in international education as part of the international recruitment team for Kaplan English and US Pathway programs and joined INTO in 2010 to support recruitment from Latin America, Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

Most recently, Yasmin has been leading on strategic recruitment planning across INTO’s North American partners.
