(NORWICH): One of INTO University of East Anglia (UEA)’s Newton A Level students, Poe, has achieved the highest mark in the world for the June 2023 series of exams in AS Psychology, which form 50% of the total A-Level grade

Poe traveled from her home in Myanmar to study at INTO UEA, where is currently enrolled on the Science and Medicine Newton A level program. The course includes A Levels in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology, with an optional fourth choice of Psychology or Physics.

The Newton A Level program is the UK’s only A Level program delivered on a university campus, designed specifically to support high-achieving students obtain places at leading UK universities.

Located in the heart of The University of East Anglia’s scenic campus, the INTO UEA Centre delivers undergraduate and graduate international students a range of pathway programs to support academic development and progression on to their chosen course at the World top 300 university. Here, students also have access to UEA’s world-class teaching and research facilities while providing valuable academic, cultural, and professional opportunities.

Recognized by Cambridge International for her stellar academic achievement, Poe has received an Outstanding Cambridge Learning Award, which celebrates the success of learners taking Cambridge examinations in over 40 countries around the world.

Poe said “I’m elated to have achieved this in my AS year. The A2 content is equally as fascinating if not more — we get to delve into the complexities and unpredictability of human nature and mind. I’m learning to appreciate the more nuanced concepts in psychology like how despite nurture, we share universal cognitive and biological processes.”

Jodi Kent, Academic Manager for the Newton A level program, said "Poe is an exceptional student who epitomizes the essence of our Newton A level population, focused and determined to achieve the very best. Not only is she academically excellent, she is also respected by both peers and teachers due to her kind and thoughtful approach and naturally reflective manner."
Centre Director, Karen Bridges, said: “We’re incredibly proud of Poe’s achievement, but we’d also like to congratulate the INTO teaching staff, whose support and encouragement enable our students to perform at this level.”

After completing her A2 examinations, Poe is looking to progress to St. George’s, University of London to study Medicine. Since 2011, 91% of INTO Newton A Level students hoping to pursue medicine have earned a place at medical school.
